The Kachhawah Rajputs claimed their descent from Kush, the younger son of Lord Rama of Ayodhya and are Suryavanshi Rajputs. From Ayodya they established their kingdom at Gwalior and later in 966 AD Sodh Deo established himself at Dosa. In 1036 AD Kankil conquered Amer from Meenas and established it as his capital. Sawai Jai Singh with his foresite built the beautiful town of Jaipur and shifted his capital to Jaipur from Amber. Jaipur, the Pink City is popularly known for its architectural splendour . The Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh II in 1727 AD built this beautiful city. Jaipur is the capital city of the State of Rajasthan in India. The Pink City is fortified with high walls and gates in all directions. The wall city is painted in pink. It was painted pink in honour of the visit of the Prince of Wales in 1876.

Amer is located about 11 kilometres from Jaipur. The Amber Fort is a picturesque fort a great architecture ( a blend of Hindu and Mughal architecture) on the top of the hills. It was constructed by Raja Man Singh I in 1592 and completed by Sawai Jai Singh I. The Amer fort architecture is of red sand stone with intricate white marble work in the interiors. The interior of the palace exhibits intricate paintings and fine carvings embedded with precious stones and mirror work. There is a famous Temple also called the Shila Devi Temple.
A spectacular fort of the three-hilltop forts that overlook Jaipur is the Jaigarh fort. The fort had a strategic significance in the ancient times. It was a weapon producing center, a cannon foundry. It houses a largest man made cannon called the ‘Jaiban’. Jaigarh was once responsible for the security of both Jaipur and Amber.
The Albert Hall is situated in the Ram Niwas Garden. It was constructed in 1876 AD to commemorate the visit of Price Albert. It has a museum and houses a collection of royal weaponry, items of archaeological interest and handicrafts
The Palace of Winds is a five storey building built by Maharaja Pratap Singh in 1798 AD. The monument has 365 windows with hanging latticed balconies. Its a beautiful piece of of architecture. Sawai Pratap Singh dedicated this building to Lord Krishna
CITY PALACE OF JAIPUR
Located in the heart of the walled city is this beautiful palace a wonderful architecture which is a blend of the Mughal and the Rajput architecture. Chandra Mahal is in the center which gives a fine view of the gardens of the Palace. The fountains cover the middle of the paved path between Chandra Mahal and the Badal Mahal. The Diwan-e-Aam has intricate decorations and manuscripts. Diwan-e-Khaas has a mable paved gallery and the Mubarak Mahal has a wonderful collection of costumes & jewelry. The City Palace is a museum with collection of costumes, jewellery, chariots, paintings, carpets, arts and many other interesting items.
The tallest structure in the walled city is IsarLat built by Maharaja Ishwari Singh (1744-51 AD). It gives a complete arial view of the city. It is a victory tour built to commemorate the victory against his step brother Madho Singh and the Maratha forces.
The observatory, built by Maharaja Sawai Jai Sigh II in the 18th century, is among 5 observatories that he built. It has huge instruments in masonry to study the movement of stars and the constellations. There is a huge sun dial which provides the time.
Situated below the Moti Doongri Fort is the intricately carved temple of Laxminarayan. The temple is of white marble and is known as the Birla Mandir.
